| The second incarnation of New Directions represents a continued experimentation with cover design but adheres styles established in the first magazine, including font, folio and headline styles.
Upon release of the first publication, the communications team solicited comments from a publications committee as well as the circulation population as part of the evolving redesign. One design feature that I was asked to employ was a full-bleed cover with new ways of presenting the title, school and university name, and mission statement. The design challenge here was finding way to present the the varied copy and logos, in a readable and aesthetically pleasing way that did not interfere with the composition of the cover photo. I also introduced an additional University color, PMS 873, which is a gold color that enhances the elegence of the publication when printed on glossy stock or varnished. This sophmore offering of New Directions let our readership know that the identity is evolving and we are involving them in the process.
